Product
Description
No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner is a concentrated alkaline
detergent blend specially developed to reduce
cleaning time and water use by eliminating the
rinsing step.
Once soil has been removed from
the surface by spraying, wiping, air-lancing or
vacuuming, a water rinse of the cleaned surface
is not required before coating, sealing or staining.
This is possible because No
Rinse Prepaint Cleaner does not leave a soapy
residue or film which could impair coating adhesion.
No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner is
effective across a wide range of soil types and
may be used before applying water-borne coatings
and sealants.

Advantages
No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner cuts cleaning costs
by eliminating the final rinsing of the cleaned
surface before coating application.
In field use, No Rinse Prepaint
Cleaner has delivered superior cleaning performance
and surface adhesion characteristics.
The rapid drying time after
cleaning, usually less than 30 minutes, permits
quick coating application. This saves the downtime
costs involved in closing all or part of a facility
during the cleaning operation.
In many cases the coating can
be applied before the scaffolding has to come
down to accommodate personnel or to be moved to
another location. No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner has
a very slight, mild odor in its concentrated form.
When diluted, it is virtually odorless.
No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner
performs effectively through a broad temperature
range, mixes readily with water and is safe to
use near vegetation.

Dilution
Guide
A. Direct Application of Solution
No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner is highly concentrated
and is intended to be diluted before use. Dilution
rates will vary depending upon the surface, the
soil load and the method of application.

may require stronger concentrations.
B. Pressure Washer
Detergent Injection
Most cold water pressure washers with detergent
injectors are pre-set at a rate of 10 parts of
water to 1 part detergent. This requires pre-mixing
with water before injecting to yield the proper
concentration.

Coverage
Calculator
To determine how much No Rinse
Prepaint Cleaner will be needed for a specific
cleaning job, use the following guide:
| Calculate the total area
to be cleaned by multiplying the length by
height |
| Length
X Height = Total Square
Footage |
| ________ X
________ = ________ |
To determine the approximate
gallons of No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner required:
- Select Light, Medium or Heavy
Duty from the chart (below) based on soil conditions.
- Find the Square Feet of Coverage
closest to the Total Surface Area in Square
Feet to be cleaned.
- Use the number in the "Gallons
of Concentrate" column for the number of
gallons needed to clean a flat, smooth surface
using a low pressure spray applicator.
Note: For rough, porous or corrugated
surfaces, multiply gallons X 1.2.
For high pressure spray application
multiply gallons X 1.3.

Field
Experience
- Metal
Fabrication Shop - Prepaint cleaning of interior
painted block walls.
Restrictions - Minimal
water use allowed because of plant machinery
and equipment.
Soil conditions -
Medium with dirt, dust, shop soils and light
oil film.
Procedure - A mixture
of 10 oz. of No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner per gallon
of water was applied to the walls using a airless
sprayer. After 5 minutes of contact time to
loosen the soil, a 2 oz. per gallon mixture
was sprayed from the top of the wall down to
flush off the soil. A water rinse of the surface
was not required before painting.
- Metal
Grinding Shop - Prepaint cleaning of roof decking
and painted block walls
Restrictions - Minimal
water use allowed because of plant machinery
and equipment
Soil conditions -
Heavy deposits of carbon-like grinding dust.
No oil film.
Procedure - One-step
cleaning of the surfaces using a mixture of
5 oz. of No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner per gallon
of water. The solution was applied from a portable
lift using an airless sprayer fitted with a
wand extension to increase reach. The solution
was sprayed onto the surface until the grinding
dust was flushed off. A water rinse of the cleaned
surface was not required before painting.
- Metal
Treatment Plant - Surface preparation of acid-residue
contaminated decking
Restrictions - Health
and safety concerns regarding the planned use
of ammonia for neutralization
Soil conditions -
Acid contamination above acid treatment tanks
Procedure - The contaminated
deck areas were thoroughly sprayed using a mixture
of 10 oz. of No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner per gallon
of water. After 15 minutes contact time, the
treated areas were blown dry using oil-free,
compressed air. When dry, pH tests were conducted
to confirm that the acid had been neutralized
before painting.
- Machine
Tool Manufacturer - Prepaint cleaning of new
machinery
Restrictions - Eliminated
the use of flammable solvents in the hand cleaning
operation
Soil conditions -
Oils, lubricants and coolants used in fabrication
Procedure - Areas
to be cleaned were sprayed with a mixture of
5 oz. of No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner per gallon
of water and wiped clean using shop cloths.
Recessed areas and blind holes were blown dry
with oil-free shop air before applying the coating.
- Supermarket
Distribution Warehouse - Prepaint cleaning of
roof decking and walls
Restrictions - Minimal
water use required to prevent damage to warehoused
grocery inventory
Soil conditions -
Light dust film
Procedure - Roof decking,
bar joists and walls were sprayed with a mixture
of 2 oz. of No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner per gallon
of water until the dust was flushed off. No
water rinse of the cleaned surface was required
before painting.

Research
A. United States
Department of Agriculture
No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner has been accepted with
an A-1 category designation as a general cleaning
agent on all surfaces or for use with steam or
mechanical cleaning devices in all departments
of USDA inspected facilities. Regulations require
a potable water rinse following cleaning.
B. Independent Laboratory
Testing
No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner has been tested for
cleaning effectiveness and coating compatibility
by an independent testing laboratory. The testing

The bottom half of five
4" x 8" steel panels were immersed
in No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner, removed and
air dried for 24 hours. Each panel was then
entirely coated with one of the following
coatings and dried at 77°F for seven days.
The immersed and unimmersed areas of each
panel were then tested for coating adhesion. |

The bottom half of a steel
panel was immersed in No Rinse Prepaint

Stain Removal
Three 12" x 12" pieces of white fabric
were stained with coffee, lipstick, and cola.
The stains were dried for 24 hours and the fabric
was soaked for 15 minutes in No Rinse Prepaint
Cleaner. After soaking, the fabric was removed
and brushed with a stiff bristle brush for 25
cycles and evaluated for the degree of stain removal.

A semi-gloss interior latex paint and a solid
color oil-based stain were applied to pine panels
and dried for 48 hours. Sponges were soaked in
the No Rinse Prepaint Cleaner and placed in contact
with each coating for 10 minutes. The sponges
were removed and each area was scrubbed with a
